Classical Musicians

Kristine Snyder

Kristine Snyder began her musical career playing piano at the age of 5. Being raised in a musical family, her older sister was already an accomplished harpist when Kristine followed suit and joined the harp world. She is classically trained although the discovery and purchase of her first electric/acoustic pedal harp brought a whole new dimension to harp music. Her electric/acoustic harps with individual microphone pick-ups (one for each string), provide both volume and the resonance needed to play jazz, contemporary, and rock music, compositions not usually associated with the harp’s angelic reputation. At the same time, classical music becomes richer with the additional resonance and beautiful tone of her harps, a sound that amplified acoustic harps cannot achieve. This is especially important for outdoor settings where wind and waves compete with the music.

On Maui, Kristine is the first choice of harpists for The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua, The Fairmont Kea Lani, Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa, Royal Lahaina Resort, and many private companies and agencies. In addition to weddings, she plays regularly in hotels and restaurants, both as a soloist or with other instruments such as violin, flute, cello, bass, and drums.

Kristine is the principal harpist in Maui’s two symphonies, the Maui Pops Orchestra and Haleakala Symphony. She has also performed and recorded with other orchestras, symphonies, gospel, and Hawaiian groups.

“My love of music is clearly evident in my playing and my goal is to make your favorite songs come alive. I’d love to be a part of your special occasion”

Here is a bit of info about Nuff Sedd: In 2004, Nuff Sedd burst on to the Hawaii music scene with their cutting edge sound incorporating their many music influences from ska and reggae, to funk and R&B, to classic and alternative rock, oldies but goodies, and even today’s top 40’s. With the release of their debut album, “Open Doors for Strangers”, Nuff Sedd emerged as one of Hawaii’s premier bands being well received with dominating record sales and sellout crowds throughout the Hawaiian Islands, Japan and the South Pacific. The members labored for nearly two years writing, creating, rehearsing, producing and recording the 16 original tracks on the album.

The band was recognized in 2005 with several prestigious awards at the Hawaiian Music Awards: Group of the Year, Best New Artist, and Song of the Year with their hit single, “Cherry Bomb”, while also being nominated at the Na Hoku Hanohano awards for “Reggae Album of the Year”.
All of the members of the group were raised on the slopes of Haleakala and continue to call Maui their home. They originally started playing together in another band called Ho’omau, consisting of 7 members in 1998. In fact, before they really even got going professionally, they played at our wedding (Judah & Leah Robb – Island Wedding Memories) in 1995. After forming Ho’omau though, they received some local success as well as radio play. But, after Ho’omau disbanded in 2000, 4 or the 7 members regrouped and formed Nuff Sedd during that same year. They have released another album in 2011 and continue to play for audiences till today.

Joshua wrote and helped to compose and arrange many of the songs on their albums. As a full time musician, Joshua has had the chance to play music with many gifted and talented musicians. Probably the most memorable moment was getting to play keyboards for Hawaii based reggae superstar group Natural Vibrations, and then having the artist known as Prince show up unexpectedly and sit in with the group on their set. On his down time, Joshua likes to spend time with his wife and kids, and enjoys going to the beach.

DJs

Del Sol

I started “DJing” when I was a little boy, sitting in front of the radio for hours, recording music from the local radio stations and “editing” them on my double deck tape player to make my first “mixed tapes”. I remember listening to the radio DJs do their live mix shows on KDAY and KPWR and I knew that’s what I wanted to do. When I got to high school I joined a small mobile DJ company that specialized in weddings and quinceneras (Mexican version of sweet 16) in and around Long Beach, California, where I am from. I was basically a roadie, taking care of the set-ups and breakdowns, but from time to time the DJ would let me play at some of the events. I bought records every chance I could and would bring them to the gigs. He could see how exited I got to play in front of a crowd so he would invite me to his house so I could learn about music selection, mixing and how to control a crowds energy with proper microphone presence.

Fast-forward 20 years and here I am… still doing what I love the most. Since then I have done literally thousands of events ranging from weddings, corporate & sporting events, club gigs and everything in between. I have been truly blessed to work with the top coordinators and event planners on the island, even winning the “Bride’s Choice Award 2011 – 2015″ from Wedding Wire. I have also had the honor of being voted “Maui’s Best Club DJ” by Maui Time Magazine three years in a row along with being recognized by The Wedding Elite as one of the “Top Five DJ Companies in the State of Hawaii”.

Entertainment frequently asked questions

Can I bring an I-Pod and speakers and play music on the beach for my wedding?

No, you cannot have amplified music on the beach. This is against the beach permit rules. But you can have unamplified music with the instrument of your choice. (Guitar, ukulele, violin, harp, ect.) You can have the unamplified music for the length of time you have reserved your permit for.

If I am at a private estate or location, and a DJ or live music isn’t in my budget, can I bring an I-Pod to play music for my reception?

Yes, that’s fine. Most small speakers you hook up to your I-Pod will not be good enough for an estate wedding reception. So we offer an amplifier, speakers, and mic setup for you if you would like. Remember, if you don’t have a DJ or live music, you may want to have someone like your best man/maid of honor or another family member or friend M.C. your event. Please contact me for more information.

What time does the music and entertainment at a private estate or location have to stop?

10 pm. These are not only the rules of all the private locations, but it’s Maui County law as well.

Classical Music Frequently Asked Questions

Do the classical musicians sing in addition to playing their instruments?

All of our classical musicians do not sing except for Celia Canty, our harpist. She is a trained opera singer and can sing only if requested.

Do your classical musicians play Hawaiian music?

They can, and some do have Hawaiian songs in their repertoire, but they focus on playing classical and contemporary pieces.

Can you arrange for a classical trio or quartet?

Yes we can! Just contact me for more information.

Can your harpist come right on the beach for my wedding?

Yes, most of the harps come right on the beach for your ceremony.

If I have a piece of music your musician doesn’t play, can they learn it for my wedding?

Yes they can! But there is a fee to learn a new song and they need notice so they have time to learn it.

Hawaiian Musicians frequently asked questions

Do your Hawaiian guitarist/ukulele players sing in addition to playing their instruments?

Yes, most of them do! Hawaiian music is beautiful when sung. The minister or officiate will even make time to have the Hawaiian musician sing something during your ceremony.

Do your Hawaiian musicians play classical pieces like “Pachelbel Cannon”?

Usually no, but some have a few classical pieces in there repertoire. Contact me for more information.

Do your Hawaiian musicians play “The Hawaiian Wedding Song” and “Over The Rainbow”?

Yes, absolutely!

What’s the difference between a guitar and a ukulele?

I think its better that you hear it for yourself…….Check out the YouTube video below. This is one of our Hawaiian musicians named Marvin Tevega playing his ukulele.

If I have a piece of music your musician doesn’t play, can they learn it for my wedding?

Yes they can! But there is a fee to learn a new song and they need notice so they have time to learn it.

Private Luau Shows frequently asked questions

Can I create my own private luau show for my reception?

Yes, absolutely! You can have a Hawaiian band, both male and female hula dancers, a fire knife dancer, and drummers. Everything that a traditional Hawaiian hula show has. Your show can be as elaborate or as intimate as you want it. Click Here for information. Also, you can contact me for more information.

Can I just have Hawaiian musicians and hula dancing?

Yes you can. You can have a solo, duo, trio, or as many dancers as you would like.

Can I just have a Fire Knife Dancer without the rest of the luau?

Yes you can. The fire knife show by itself is about 20 minutes long and includes drummers.

DJs frequently asked questions

Can your DJ get any song I want?

Yes he can. If it can be purchased on I-Tunes or at a store, he can get it for your wedding.

But if I have a special song that can’t be purchased on I-Tunes or is not part of the mainstream, can I have it played?

Yes, just bring it on a flash drive to the wedding and he will play it.

Why do you have only two DJs listed on your website? What if they are both booked on my wedding day?

Because they are, in our opinion, the best DJs on Maui. In my experience, not all DJ’s have the same level of quality, professionalism, and experience. Remember, the DJ is an important part of your wedding reception. He is the MC. He (and I, as your coordinator) have a lot to do with the timing and flow of the reception. Many DJ’s tend to talk to much. We feel that your reception is not a forum for the DJ to hear his own voice. If our primary DJs are already booked on your wedding day, we have a couple of others that we like to use as well.

Remember to follow us on Facebook.
